Spring Break 2008

What I did on my Spring Break.
by Jennifer Sullivan

On Saturday, Kathy, Katherine and I got up bright and early. When I say early, I mean we were awake at 5 a.m. and out the door at 6:30 a.m. Now I know this sounds just crazy but the goal was to get on the road when Katherine was sleepy. We thought she might still sleep. She did not, however, she was VERY good. We stopped for 2 (30) minutes breaks and it paid off. She only got fussy once which made her fall asleep. We were here by 1:00 pm.

Katherine was really excited to see the water and the beach. I took her down to the actual beach. It was a short lived trip but fun nonetheless.

Once we were here, Kathy went and did all of our shopping at WalMart. Katherine and I just hung out here at the house. We really just hung out the rest of the day.

On Sunday, we went to Benno's for lunch. It was sooooo yummy. Afterwards, we came back and Katherine went down for a nap (I mention this because this is one of my favorite times of day. :) )

By that evening, Raymond had arrived. He was supposed to get to the house on Tuesday but just couldn't stand that we were already here. It has been so much fun to have RayRay here. Katherine just loves RayRay.

On Monday, we relaxed BIG time. Kathy had a conference call. We ate Rueben sandwiches. We took Katherine on a golf cart ride.

By that evening, we were celebrating St. Patrick's Day. There are some photos of us drinking green wine but you don't want to see those. It's one of those things that is funny to only those in the photos. We also had fresh boiled shrimp.

On Tuesday, I went for a pedicure to have some MommyTime. Kathy and Raymond took Katherine to the aquarium. Apparently, when she saw the sharks she looked at Grandma Kathy and said, "oh no!". Kathy and Raymond said that Katherine was very well behaved. (proud parent moment.)

Afterwards, Kathy and I took Katherine to eat lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. Very yummy lunch and Katherine loved all of the animals.

Before we got home, I had to go back to get a toe fixed from my morning pedicure. I don't know how this will translate in writing, however, I had a bizarre encounter with a 70 year old women and her shiny purple nails. So here goes....

Keep in mind, I was at the nail salon in WalMart.

First, she showed me her purple nails. Then, 70 yr old daughter had a conversation with 90 yr old 'Mama' about haircuts, cottage cheese, peaches, pears and one chicken wing while I sat in between them. 'Mama' couldn't get the price she wanted for her haircut and so she decided to just wait. Then they had a lengthy discussion about whether they would have peaches or pears with the cottage cheese they were going to buy. This is where it got weird... Daughter asked if 'Mama' wanted to get a wing from the deli. See, she wasn't sure because 'Mama" had roasted chicken the day before. Then after they named everyway chicken can be cooked (roasted, boiled, broiled, baked, lemon pepper chicken were just a few named), they decided a wing would be just fine.

I realize this is all subject to interpretation but trust me, it was really weird. You just can't make this stuff up.

Somewhere in there, I recommended they have chicken salad. Don't ask.

Today, we took Katherine to the Rainforest at Moody Gardens. Raymond stayed back to wait for the appliance guy. (who just showed up at 5:00 p.m. Nice.)

Katherine enjoyed the Rainforest. She was amazed by the birds and the fish.

Tomorrow, we leave for Mexia to celebrate Easter with Mimi, Papa and Grandmother Dreier. Frank will also be there on Friday. I know Katherine will be excited to see Daddy!

I'll try to keep the updates coming.

And that is the end of my Spring Break essay.

The End.
