On Wednesday, Debbie, Caitlyn (13), Cassidy (10), Katherine (7), Emily (3) and I headed out to Galveston. After leaving at 10:00 a.m., we arrived in Mexia for a very quick potty break. It was nice because it was a quick break with clean bathrooms!!
We got to the beach house around 3:00ish and met Tracy, Lane (10) and Becky (13) at the Sonic in Galveston to lead everyone to the beach house. Once we arrived, there was much ooohing and aaahing. As predicted, all the guests were very impressed with the house.
It wasn't 15 minutes in before all the kids were itching to go to the beach. Luckily, Debbie and Tracy were willing to take all the kids (sans Emily) to the beach for a 20 minute look a bout. They immediately went swimming in the pool afterwards!
From there, we decided to go eat at Rainforest Cafe. We actually didn't have to wait too long because we took the kids on the "Adventure Ride". It is kind of cheesy but the kids really liked the ride.
Food was good and the kids were well behaved! Debbie, Cassidy, Katherine, Emily and I went to Wal-Mart afterwards even though it was pretty late. We got necessities like lunch meat, sodas, snacks and wine (wine being the most important).
The next day was met with a major sleep in. Around 11:00, we loaded up the golf cart and headed to beach. I, yes, I, Jennifer Sullivan, spent 2 hours playing around the beach! Yea me! The kids had a fantastic time making sand castles, jumping the waves and doing what kids do when they are at the beach! Tracy taught us how to shake out seaweed. When you shake out seaweed, all kinds of things come out.....tiny shrimp, baby crabs and little shells! It was cool (creepy) but cool.
When we returned, the kids (sans Emily and me) showered and jumped in the pool. I gave Emily a bath and fed her lunch. Debbie made a picnic lunch and took it downstairs. The kids just sat down on the porch with Debbie and Tracy to consume a WHOLE LOT of food!
Debbie and Tracy, very graciously, took all of the kids (sans Emily) to play Putt Putt. I say that because I stayed back with Emily and got the chance to just relax in silence and quiet. Emily fell asleep pretty quickly so I got about 2 hours of just "me" time. It was absolutely fantastic! The kids loved, loved, loved Putt Putt. Katherine had the lowest score (according to Debbie and Tracy) so she was thrilled to win! The truth is that she had the highest score of all the players but everyone was gracious enough to let Katherine "win". She was super exited and it gave her a boost of confidence!!
The night was ended with playing the Wii and relaxation.
Friday was met with another major, major sleep in. We actually headed out to the beach again. Lane got some fish and again the kids "caught" crabs and an abundance of sea creatures. 2 hours later we headed home. Lane caught 2 fish which fascinated the other kids.
After everyone bathed and dressed, we headed to Kemah. There is a cool restaurant, The Aquarium, that has floor to ceiling aquariums next to the tables. We saw 200 lb fish, eels, sharks, alligators and a ton of sea type fish. This particular place serves pretty cool desserts so we fed the kids dinner before left and let them order dessert at the restaurant. Katherine though it was "awesome!" that she got only dessert.
We headed home and all the kids were pretty tired.
Saturday was a day of cleaning, packing and loading the car. The trip home was not too bad. We stopped in Mexia for a potty break. The kids were a little bit more fussy than previous days but we chalked it up to fatigue.
The 100% coolest thing that happened was what we saw on the way home. We were driving down Seawall Blvd to Benno's for lunch. All of sudden, we see something jumping around in the water. Emily proclaimed they were dolphins so we went with it. Moving down a block or so....we look over and you guessed it! We saw dolphins. So of course we pulled over to let everyone out of the car. We all spent about 10 minutes watching a pod of wild dolphins play in the water and waves. They were probably 200 yards out into the ocean. It was absolutely cool and amazing and overwhelming!!
Needless to say, it was a wonderful and super fun trip!
Just done!
Going for a Hole-in-One!
