Mary is my friend.

On Sunday, Katherine and I went to the Youth Group Dinner Theater. The Youth group was singing and serving food for a fundraiser.

Katherine started off with a million questions....mainly "why?" questions. Everything is "why, Mama?" right now....everything.

Among other things, she wanted to know why the kids were going to sing. She asked over and over and was not satisfied with any of my answers. Below is a very shortened version of our conversation. Keep in mind, we sat with 3 choir members and our minister and his family.

Katherine: Why those kids going to sing?
Me: Because they love singing.
Katherine: Why?
Me: The same reason we like to sing, it's fun.
Katherine: Why it fun Mama?
Me: Because it just is
Katherine: oh
*30 second pause*
Katherine: Why they sing Mama?
Me: Because they want to make us happy.
Katherine: Why?
Me: Because singing makes us happy.
Katherine: oh
*pause*
Katherine :Why they sing the music?
Me: *giant sigh* Because they love Jesus, Katherine.
Katherine: (in a complete exasperated tone) I DON'T LIKE JESUS!!

At this point, everyone just lost it....including me.....the laughter was and loud. It was, in fact, too loud for anyone to hear the explantion.

Katherine has this thing about Jesus being only the boy's friend and Mary is only the girl's friend. We've tried to explain to her that Jesus is everyone's friend but she just isn't having it right now.

Truly, I didn't think much of it until that moment.....the moment when Katherine told me, the minister and the rest of the world that she DID NOT like Jesus.

We had only been there 20 minutes.
